Track and Field Meet

Hi ya all! I'm here to answer questions on my Teacher's Blog.

Q1) Did you attend our School Sports Day? If so, how did you find it? If not, why did you not attend our school event?

I attended our School Sports Day on March 06 2009. I found it quite fun as I get to help out. If I were to sit there cheering, my friend said that it was B-O-R-I-N-G. Maybe I will feel the same....

Q2) What do you think is the most interesting part of the School Sports? Why?

To play with the balls. The balls are very bouncy and I even help to press the ball down so the air will come out. Trust me, it was fun!

Q3) What do you think is the most uninteresting part of the School Sports? Why?

To sit and sit just watching them run. Maybe its fun just watching and cheering but definitely not sitting in the hot sun. If only I was seating in the back seats.... But anyway, I get to help out!

Q4) How can the school improve on the School Sports Day?

No comments.....

Q5) Do you think engaging in sports is important and useful? If so, why? If not, why?

I think it is useful to me, because It helps me in my health. It is also useful to people who want to join Olympics or do work that is something related to sports.

Q6) Do you engage in any sports? If so, what is it? If not, why have you not engage in it?

No. Unless I can find a Sport activity on Wednesday, because I am very busy with CCA's on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday.

Q7) How can sports help us?

Sports can help us in improving our health(I think).

Q8) If your were the principal of the school, what would you do to encourage pupils to engage in sports?

I can get some fun sports like basketball, tennis, volleyball, golf etc to help pupils start their interest in sports.

Reading

I like to read because it helps me to improve on my English and Mother Tongue. I like to read interesting books like Junie B. Jones. , Geronimo Stilton, Enid Blyton etc..... Sometimes I might feel cheerful and take out a comic book to read. I really like Enid Blyton's books. He always write about Fairytale (Fiction). I enjoy his books a lot and i can see a lot of his books whenever I go to the library. I heard my school's library is starting a quiz and you have to read the books in the library in order to answer most of the questions. Now the library allows us to borrow 2 books at a time. One Mother Tongue and one English.
Well, thats all I can provide you with.

Target Setting - Dare to dream! Strive!

1. What is the purpose of setting targets for the various subjects?

The purpose it is too make us strive for our results.

2. Do you think this is useful? If 'Yes', why? If not, why?

Yes, because It improves our self-confidence of getting higher results.

3. How did you go about setting the targets for yourself?

I set the targets higher than my SA2 results and than the results will go through the teacher. the teacher can change it or can leave it as it is.

4. What are you doing to help you achieve your target? Do you have a plan? If so, what is it?

I have a plan, but it's all in my mind. I plan to do a little more work or read a book every day, pay attention in class and I can teach my friends for revision.

5. How are your parents helping you achieve your targets?

My parents are helping me to pay the school fees and they can teach me questions that I don't know or I am not sure.

6. What will you do to motivate yourself towards achieving the targets?

I will work hard and tell myself that everything I am doing is for getting a job and go through University to make myself a better person to help to repay my debt to my mother and father who has taken care of me.

7. What do you think your teacher/the school can help you achieve the targets?

The teachers can help us to focus and our work or the school can help us cut the cost for some CCA's to let the poorer people have a chance to learn more things.

Total Defence Day

The Merlion is Singapore's Avater. It represents Singapore and how it was found. It represents history. Long ago, in1965, when Singapore was borned, the Merlion was an imaginary creature with a head of a lion and a body with a fish. The fish body comes from Singapore's ancient name back when it was a fishing village — Temasek — meaning "sea town" in Javanese. It was created by Mr Fraser Brunnera member of the Souvenir Committee and curator of the Van Kleef Aquarium.

December Holidays

I wrote this post not because i have gone to anywhere, but because my teacher told me so. I basically have no things to share so, well, maybe a bit. During Christmas eve, i went to a party at my aunts house. It had a REAL CHRISTMAS TREE!!!! I want to put up a Christmas tree but Joseph will pull the Christmas tree down so my parents say maybe next year. I could try a cupcake long time ago when only the emperor ate. It was so sweet!! And the best part was when I went home cause i had lots of presents to bring with me. Joseph had cars (of course because he loves cars that he got 14 already!!) while I had my own things. The next day i went to my Grandmothers house. There was lots of fruit like dragon fruit, grapes, mango etc. All my favourites!! There was a mango log cake for Christmas. And I had a party during the holidays and it was so much fun!! Ok, thats all for now. Bye!

It was a chocolate cake with waffle biscuits around the corner. I make a wish, and that wish is that I hope to ge.... I think I should not tell you or else my wish won't come true!! After eatnig the delicious cake, we all settle down in the karaoke room. My friends sang alot of songs such as Happy Birthday to You, Beauty and the Beast song etc.......... The party finish at 5.00p.m. and then we all went up to my house. My room was very noisey and very lively. My friends started to go home one by one. Halloween party

Boo! Halloween is here. Hope you'll had a nice time. I went trick-or-treating at my condominium's people who celebrate Halloween. When we got back, I kept asking for water. I was very happy we had gone back to the house. The treats that i got was enough to celebrate at Christmas! After that we played dress up. I was very surprised by my friend's costume but she kept running away so I couldn't take pictures of her for you to see. But I did take some pictures of the house(OK, maybe only four). This is when they decorate with Halloween features.

My 1st Learning Journey to The Science Centre!

On Wednesday, 10 of September 2008, I had my very first trip to the science centre, I had never, ever gone to the science centre since i was young. I was very nervous about what to bring on the night before the learning journey. After singing the school song, i waited for the bus. The bus practically had a delay that day so we reached the science centre at around 9:00. Wow! I didn't know that the science centre is located in Jurong! Upon our destination, I did the first part of my worksheet. Near the "Optical Illusions'" corner, I saw many different types of things that are very interesting. Did you know that i love science? Alright, next! I went to the laboratory and observe how a chick hatches from its egg. Here are some pictures i took. I know my videos aren't good.

Next we went to Hall C to look at the dinosaurs and complete our worksheets. Let me show you some pictures of the dinosaurs!

We measured the enclosure length and wrote down all the answers. Then we went to another place. i took a video but it was blocked by friends so it is not so clear but i just want to show you if you are interested.

I went to the wonderful thing where you type a word and it will spray it out. I hope i have a chance to go to the science centre again!

My Holidays

Oh, My holidays didn't went too well too! (If you're wondering who the other person is, it is Deborah) On The upper part of the Saturday and Sunday, i felt like i had a stuffy nose. That was it, Monday i also had a slight fever and at night, My pants said if i recover from fever i can go out on Tuesday(Which was practically 'Tomorrow' for that day) But on Tuesday i had a fever so I had to go to the doctor and i totally felt like i ruined my own day :'( . Phew. On Wednesday, I went fishing! Yay! But the lokang fish i died very soon almost like one day and it died. My father say it is because lokang fish survive better in dirty water and i told him that maybe i should pollute the water so the fish can survive. And during the tuition i accidentally broke a glass and cut my leg. :( Thursday, went to Tampines Mall (It's the new one, between the old one and the new one) to buy a gift for my friends party at Toys 'R' Us . Friday, went to Tampines mall (both the new one and the old one) and I played arcade games! But i promised my mum i won't get addicted to this kind of waste money habit because we can buy the prizes anytime (not anywhere). Saturday, Went to my friend's party but i almost didn't know anybody at the party because most were her classmates. I stayed the latest and i get to see her present and play with her present (Of course with her)!! Sunday, stayed at home, played with friends, played computer games. Well, that's all!

Olmypics

The answers to Mdm. Phua's Blog about the post 'Olympics'.

1) According to legend, the ancient Olympic Games were founded by
Heracles (the Roman Hercules), a son of Zeus. Yet the first Olympic Games for which we still have written records were held in 776 BCE (though it is generally believed that the Games had been going on for many years already).

2) Well, from my point of view, I think it's becuz it helps us to build our sportsmanship and friendship and at the same time, test our sports and how good we are in them.

3) Yes, becuz I want to see Singapore winning a medal or standing in place first, second, third, fourth or fifth.

4) The athlete Michael Phelps impresses me most becuz he said :“Nothing is impossible. With so many people saying it couldn't be done, all it takes is an imagination, and that's something I learned and something that helped me.” And he won EIGHT GOLD MEDALS!

5)If i can, i would like to participate in the athlete event but i strongly think that i might break my leg when i am doing that.

That's all for today. Bye!

National Day

On 8/8/2008 and 9/8/2008, I celebrated National Day! Yippee! I love National Day! OK, cut the crap. On 8/8/2008, I celebrated National Day at school. I only had 4 hrs of school that day. I went ahead, as normal days, sat down at the hall to read my book. However, this time, I heard National songs as I was reading and P1 and P2 were sitting with us too. One of the songs I heard was 'Home'. The student(Prefect, i think) read out aloud the paper that was given. And we (The pupils) were supposed to respond. When I went back to class, I did the Collage Making. It was very fun, but noisy as Zonghui and Darren quarrel about the glue becuz Darren said Zonghui used too much glue and she was wasting it. During recess (in class), I ate bread and drank water. Oh, looks like time to go to the show at the hall. The show was quite funny, but i couldn't see becuz everyone was kneeling down. On 9/8/2008, during the NDP show, I watch it at the BIG screen at the function room. I got a Goodie Bag!! Yippee! During times of the show, He will ask questions and you are supposed to answer them, one of the questions he asked was " What do the red portion, the white portion, the five stars and the crescent stand for?" The correct answers were

Crescent= Young nation on the rise
Five stars=Democracy, Peace, Progress, Justice and Equality
Red portion= Brotherhood
White portion= Purity and Virtually

Well thats all for now. Bye!

Racial Harmony Day

My school celebrated Racial Harmony Day on 21 of July 2008. I brought extra pocket money on that day. I went up to the hall to read my book. After singing the school song and the National Anthem, i watched a funny show that shows the importance of being a busybody.

I went back to class to do some work after the show, but my teacher was not there. She was busy at other parts of the school. So another teacher named Mrs Tan was there to teach us.

During recess, there were different types of traditional foods. There was cotton candy, satay, popcorn and Tingting candy. I tried different types of traditional food and went to buy my CD-Rom game at the book fair. Then, i went to the Skylite cafe in my school. i tried different types of games and saw some of my friends take phtos of them in different traditional clothes.

I went back to class and made Bunga Manga. You have to swirl the streamers around a stick. Except that some of my classmates didn't get a chance to do them as they had to sell cards. I wish next year they had something like this year too.

Cyberbullying

i am replying to Mdm Phua's blog.

1) Cyberbullying is just like bullying except for the fact that you do it online.

2)They gossip about people behind their backs. Or say mean things about people.

3) They engage in these activities because they want to force people to do what they want.

4) i can stop them by telling that Cyberbullying is wrong and not cool.

5)Nope

6) i would tell them that
Victims: ignore them and report them to a admistrator
Cyberbullies: STOP BULLYING!

Netiquette

I am replying to Mdm Phua's blog.

1) i don't use vulgar words. i don't criticise someone.

2) Netiquette is like having manners except that you are on the net and you have to show cyber courtesy.

3) Some people on the net create hate blogs which is meant to criticise people and they use such words as s***** or f***** or f*** .

4) i would give my friends advice such as not to use bad words or criticise their enemies.

Last and Most Memorable visit to the Night Market

It was going to close. My best and favourite so far night market(i call it 'pasamalam'). I was heart-broken when it left. It has the best games. I wrote about it on the June holidays post. But i still miss it as it has fun games and things that i like. My mum says it is not closing down but only moving to another place so i may find it in another place. But i am still upset. I really am so so upset. I hope if they will open another similar game stall, i would treasure it forever. I got to go. But i will forever remember this visit although i only visit it for 3 times and the last visit counts as fourth time.

June Holidays

During the June Holidays, I didn't do much. Just do, make, play, and go. Idid my homework, make crafts, play games and went out. I went to the fishing farm at Pasir Ris. Iused a net to catch little fish and it was very difficult to catch the fish because before you even went to the spot, the fish had swam away. Icaught about 14 fish and before 7 days (1 week) all the fish died. That may be all. I also went to a night market. It has 3 fun ball games. i won prizes like the Minnie mouse bride and the mickey mouse groom. The first game had balls(of course) and you are supposed to throw the ball into holes to win the points. It's just like ping pong. The second game you roll the balls down the bumpy slide and in the holes to win some points. The third game you are supposed to put the ball in the hole and pull the string. If it lends on all the 12 special animals, you get jackpot points! I love my Holidays.

PC games addicted!

School can wait, I'd rather play PC games (28 January 2007)

Parents of 17-year-old games addict agree to let her quit school for a year.

School can wait, I'd rather play PC games.
WOULD you let your child take a year off school so she can play computer games?

One mother did, very reluctantly, after failing to dissuade her daughter.

Kelly Ong, 17, is so addicted to gaming that she missed one of her papers in last October's O-level exams.

And she admits she's likely to fail because she continued playing during the exam period.

She can spend more than 16 hours a day playing computer games.

She would start playing as soon as she reached home from school and go on till it was time to go to school again the next morning. And she would end up falling asleep in class.

Though it has got her into trouble with her teachers and parents, she won't stop playing.

She even failed to turn up for her O-level Science paper because she said she was sick from lack of sleep.

She had a big argument with her parents after she said she wanted to drop out of school for a year just to play.

"It's only for a year. Just let me play as much as I want to and I will go back to my studies after that," said Kelly.

Her goal is to claim a place in the top five in international gaming competitions. She took part in the Electronic Sports World Cup competition here and came in third in the national qualifiers category.

Said Kelly: "Initially, my parents objected to my idea. But I told them that there is no point forcing me to continue my studies when I just want to play games. I would just be wasting their time and money."

Eventually they gave in, after arguing about it for two months.

Said her mother, who wanted to be known only as Mrs Ong: "Of course I'm disappointed she wants to stop her studies for the time being. But she is obsessed with gaming and there is nothing I can do to stop her. She is clever and I hope to see her pursue her other interests, like cooking."

But Mrs Ong, 40, does not see the need to seek any professional help because 'computer gaming is not an illegal activity'.

She has two other children, aged 12 and 13, who are not into gaming.

Mrs Ong and husband, 42, help to run family businesses. They work six or seven days a week, and often return home only around 11pm.

Mrs Ong admits that their hectic work schedule is partly to blame for Kelly's obsession with gaming.

Also, they pampered her with computer games from young.

The family has three large TV sets in the living room of their HDB maisonette in Hougang, one hooked to an Xbox game console, and another to a PlayStation. Nearby is a desktop computer at which Kelly spends long hours playing.

The chatty girl recalled how she became addicted to playing CounterStrike two years ago.

"I started forming my own girls' team and joined competitions. I get the kick from defeating my opponents unexpectedly. Sometimes my heart skips a beat. I get up from my seat and throw punches in the air. That's how excited I can get," she said.

Kelly enjoys leadership, assigning roles and responsibilities to others in her team.

"Sometimes I think I can still hear the loading of guns in my mind even though I am not playing. I am constantly thinking of which weapons to use for my next attack," she said.

Her teachers spoke to her parents when she began doing poorly in school.

Said Mrs Ong: "I confiscated her keyboard, mouse and CPU many times. She ran away from home after that."

"I later found out she would go to play at gaming centres, and stay out late at those places. So I thought that I might as well return the items to her so that at least she stays home to play."

Said Kelly: "I know that I can't be gaming for my whole life and I must control (my urge to play), but not now. Let me play now and I will study later."

Whatever her O-level results will be, Kelly has made up her mind to postpone her studies till next year.

"Now, I just want to concentrate on my gaming and try to be among the top five in regional gaming competitions."

My say:
Isn't it a pity she gave up her studies for 1 year?(This is true;non-fiction)

Project Work

From 20 of march 2008 to 23 of march 2008, I was having project work. That is why in my school lessons are cancelled. My group name is environment(al) helpers My group members are Hana, Desiree, Deborah and Zonghui. There are 5 roles 4 each of us to play while doing teamwork. They are Leader, Timekeeper, Noise Controller,Writer and Motivator. Hana is the leader, I am the timekeeper, Desiree is the noise controller, Zonghui is the writer and Deborah is the motivator. Sometimes i think we are arguing about the ideas and sometimes my group and I think that Deborah is a freeloader. Of course, problems will occur in project work since you are working in groups. The title is Littering. My group was given the challenge to figure out what are the 3 major problems that will occur if the earth was badly littered. That was on Tuesday. So the things on Wednesday were my group and I was supposed to design a 3-d poster to encourage people not to litter, so Zonghui told my group to bring certain things. And we also voted on whose picture will be used, what slogan will it be etc. Finally it reached Wednesday. We had problems doing the 3-d poster, like Zonghui decided on doing this art & craft idea to cover the words and i got my hands sticky #_#but i had fun. I wished we had this type of programs again.

Earthquake

I am now responding to Mdm. Phua's Blog from the post "Personal Response: Earthquake" .

The most recent happenings are.......the 2 Asian tragedies, Wuhan China earthquake and Myanmar cyclone. Earth scientists believe that most earthquakes are caused by slow movements inside the Earth that push against the Earth's brittle, relatively thin outer layer, causing the rocks to break suddenly. Maybe when there is an earthquake, the people can knock over something to attract attention. Those countries who have volcanoes like Japan, or those countries which has tsunamis happening in them like Indonesia. Luckily we are safe in Singapore because it won't have any earthquake happening in this country. It is because Singapore is not in the earthquake zone!

Poem To Help A Girl

I want to share with you this poem because I want to help this little girl and please pass it on to at least 5 people. She'll never make it to high school and she has cancer futher more. This is the poem:

Slow Dance
This is a poem
Written by a teenager with cancer.
She wants to see how many
People get her poem.
It is quite the poem.
Please pass it on.
This Poem was written by a terminally ill young girl in a
New York Hospital .
It was sent!
By A medical doctor -
Make sure to read what is in the closing statement AFTER THE POEM.
SLOW DANCE
Have you ever
Watched kids
On a merry-go-round?
Or listened to
The rain Slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a Butterfly's' erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading Night?
You better slow down.
Don't dance so Fast.
Time is short.
The music won't Last.
Do you run through each day
On the Fly?
When you ask
How are you?
Do you hear the
Reply? When the day is done
Do you lie in your Bed
With the next hundred chores
Running through
Your head?
You'd better slow down
Don't dance so Fast.
It!
Me is short.
The music won't Last.
Ever told your child,
We'll do it Tomorrow?
And in your haste, Not see His Sorrow?
Ever lost touch,
Let a good Friendship die
Cause you never had time
To call
And say,'Hi'
You'd better slow down.
Don't dance So fast.
Time is short.
The music won't Last.
When you run so fast to get somewhere
You Miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry
Through your day,
It is like an unopened Gift....
Thrown away.
Life is not a Race.
Do take it slower
Hear the Music
Before the song is over.

Learning Journey to the Farms

On 26/3/08 , i never went to a farm before so i was very excited. The owner is a man named 'John Hay'. No wonder the farm is called 'Hay Dairies' cause the word 'Hay' is his surname. Mr Hay gave us a brief description of what the goats look like and what are thehad my very first time going to farms. I brought a camera along. It was a very long time getting to Lim Chu Kang, which when i reach, they showed us a video of what we are going to see later when we go to the farms. After the video, my class went to our first farm. It was a goat farm. The farm name is 'Hay Dairies'. I characteristics of goats. We move on to feed the goats. It was really fun!!!! I took picture of the goats looking like this:

Time for a break of 15 minute before my class and me move on. Most of my classmates were eating sandwiches. The next destination....... aeroponics farm!!! The aeroponics farm showed me a funny video about aeroponics farm. When the video ended, i could choose to have a drink of kiwi and vegetable but it was so yucky. I ate the thousand island dressing if we wanted even without mayonnaise cream, it is still delicious and yummy!!!!!! The farmer showed us many flowers and plants like the forget-me-not.
It is really exciting! Next, my class went to one of the oldest farms in singapore. It was 96 years old this year 2008. They have two cute mascots called tetoil and morchoo. We went into thier playground to find lots of plants such as papaya tree, coconut tree etc. It is time to go back to school by the time my class finish looking at the playgrround. When my class reach home, all of us recieve one free bottle of chocolate goat milk.

Sports Carnival

It was a exciting day as I went to school. When I reached the school, I went in. It was a normal day but I knew everyone was excited as me. The Principal told us that we were going to have free ice-cream. It was all thanks to a lady who donated $5000! That is why we could have free ice-cream. It was a cup game next so exciting! My group and i played stacking the cups which you have to put the cups on top of each other, and stack of course! After playing, i went along with the 1 hour long recess. I went to the canteen to eat my food. The field had the bouncy castle, the parade square has games and candy floss, the spiral staircase have balloons you can choose of your own choice and near there was face painting that you can paint anything you like! Plus, if you go to the cyber cafe (not 1766), you can answer question about water and get a lucky draw to win a prize! i tried all the games, food and the bouncy castle. It really is fun!!!! Next stop, my class went to do archery and boat rowing which you must row to win the game. And if you see that in the gym they have this equipment too. I think this is a really exciting event to host with food and games!! In the end, i ate my ice-cream and i felt really happy as this is the happiest day i had in my school life. Because i hate school (but not now as i am in IT class and not only that, i can do blogging), i feel that i am feeling better now.

Computer Games

Firstly, I would like to tell you about the different types of computer games you can play. Did you know that there are four main types for me? If you don't then I will like to share with you what the main types for me are. They are:

1.CD-ROM games

2.Internet games

3.Down loadable games

4.Bought games

There may be some more types to play computer games but i think that 4 types is enough for me. I would like to recommend some websites so you can download games or play some online. They are(down loadable games first): h
ttp://www.bigfishgames.com/ , http://www.arcadetown.com/ and http://www.gamefools.com/ . I've got some online games: http://www.capstonekids.com/ , http://www.recyclezone.org.uk/ and http://www.enchantedlearning.com/ (this one is not games but crafts to do)

I think that I always find a lot of websites so I can share some with you. Some helpful advice is that you should play only 1 hour a day because it will spoil our eyes and after finishing schoolwork or playing computer games, you should rest your eyes. This are recommended games in y8.com from me as if you are new there, you can look here to see what games are the good fighting, dress up...etc. Come over and look!!

The games are really challenging and fun at the same time so maybe you should just check them out!!! But if you arent the explorer type of person, cause the istructions are in japanese, so if you don't understand or don't know how to play, then feel free to ask me.

Blogging experience

I think blogging is a great way for sharing with friends about your photos or things that are happening. This way, we can also give comments to our friends blog and have a chance to find out more about them. Blogging might be a good way for IT class. And it is good for those who are very addictive in computers.
